Dental Monitoring and Korch Cam

Reviewed by Dr. Susan Korch, DMD, MS

Dental Monitoring lets you scan your teeth at home with your phone instead of driving in for a routine check. Dr. Susan Korch reviews each scan and tells you whether to continue or come in. We call our version Korch Cam. It means fewer office visits without less oversight.

Traditional orthodontic treatment means coming back every four to eight weeks so that someone can check your teeth. Most of those appointments last 20 to 30 minutes. The looking takes about two of them.

Dental Monitoring replaces the looking. You take a short scan with your phone, we review it, and you hear back. If everything is on track, you carry on. If something needs attention, you come in for a purposeful visit.

Korch Cam is our monitoring program. Same technology, our name on it, because how we use it is ours.

What It Actually Is

A smartphone app plus a small plastic scan box that holds your cheeks clear so the camera can see your teeth properly.

You get set up in the office, not on your own:

  1. Your treatment starts in the chair with Dr. Korch, as normal.
  2. Once your braces or aligners are fitted, you download the app, and we create your secure account with you.
  3. We give you the scan box and show you how to take a scan, in person, until you can do it confidently.
  4. From then on, you send scans on a schedule we set together.
  5. We review every scan and get back to you.

The scans are not optional extras. They are how we know your treatment is progressing, so skipping them means flying blind.

How Often You Scan

With clear aligners, usually one quick scan a week. That is a more frequent look at your teeth than a traditional schedule gives, not less.

That is the part patients find surprising. Compared with an office visit every four to eight weeks, weekly scanning means we see your progress more often, catch a tray that is not tracking sooner, and adjust earlier.

With fixed braces the scan interval is longer, because there is less that can quietly go wrong between adjustments.

Who Gets the Most Out of It

  • College students who cannot easily get home
  • Patients driving from further out, including our Harrisburg, Lebanon and Annville patients, where the round trip is 40 minutes or more
  • Frequent travelers fitting treatment around work
  • Parents running more than one child’s schedule
  • Teenagers with after-school commitments that make daytime appointments costly
  • Anyone without easy transport

What You Get Out of It

  • Fewer trips. The clearest benefit, and the reason most patients care.
  • Closer oversight, not looser. Weekly scans beat a look every six weeks.
  • Faster answers. Something feels wrong, you scan and ask, rather than waiting for the next appointment.
  • A record. Your progress is documented in sequence, which makes conversations about it concrete.

What it does not do is shorten your treatment. Treatment length is set by how far your teeth need to move. Monitoring changes how often you drive here, not how long you are in braces. We would rather say that plainly than let you infer otherwise.

You Still Come In

Some things need hands and instruments: adjustments, bonding, debonding, appliance fitting, and anything that requires a physical examination rather than a photograph.

Monitoring removes the appointments that were only ever a look. It does not remove your orthodontist, and every scan is reviewed by Dr. Korch rather than passed through software alone.
